In her first speech since the federal budget, Canadian government Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland announced

  • an enhanced Canada Workers Benefit will give low-income workers an additional $2,400 starting this year (a refundable tax credit)
  • Old Age Security (OAS) recipients get a 10% increase; for Canadians over 75, it will provide up to $766 more.
